Italy was a whirlwind. And as I sit here and think about it. I never did blog a detail about the aftermath of our trip. I blogged about what else, all my worries... I don't speak Italian... they will hate me... how will we get around... we will get pick pocketed... we will be totally broke after this trip... will I really be able to walk as much as Rick Steves says I am going to have too... ay ye ye.
The answers... I still don't speak Italian... but Italians are lovely people and eager to help, and almost upset that they don't understand you, in THEIR country...we got around... we didn't get pick pocketed, because if you have common sense, you know that the same can occur in our 50 United States... yes, we were broke and it took us a while to pay off a trip of a LIFETIME... and yes, in fact these legs can take me lots of places... thru the historical city of Rome, to the hills of Tuscany, thru the most gorgeous hike I have ever been on in the Cinque Terre (forget that I haven't really "hiked" at all,) up and down stairs and side ways and over waterways in Venice, and on to beautiful Paris.
"Italy is a dream that keeps returning the rest of your life." -Anna Akhmatova
When I first read this quote, I had no idea how much more I would understand it once I returned to America. It is a dream. It felt like a dream. I do dream about it and about going back. So, over the next 2 weeks I will write about none else, then Italy, and our experience in this foreign, beautiful country.
I am so glad your next few blogs will be about a place I know I will never go but dream one day that I will. I would love to see the country where my mom was born and still have plenty of relatives that I would love to meet.
ReplyDeleteYay! Excited to hear about your trip! Italy is high on my list of places to see, but I haven't made it yet. I hear Italians love babies though, so maybe next year with Baby H in tow!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a year already!?! Sheesh!
