I do NOT like GREEN eggs AND ham!

Adam and I saw Seussical the Musical on Saturday. An old and dear friend of mine was in it performing as one of the "bird girls." It was a cute story combining many of Dr. Seuss's books and kept me entertained... moral being...

Be mine?

Valentine's Day was low key, just as it should be this year! Adam got me a card and my favorite Fannie May candy, along with waking up early to get me a mocha from Caribou. I hand made a card for him and filled a kitchen strainer with candy and boxers as his gift. Hey, you have to be crafty in this economy! And when the boy says he wants a strainer... you get him a strainer!!!
Later that afternoon we went to see the movie Valentine's Day! It was cute!! Shockingly, Adam did not fall asleep!
The card in the middle is from Adam's mommy!!

School Reunion!

This past Saturday I had a reunion with the women who got me thru nursing school minus Lisa! It was so much fun!!! I got there at 6:30 and didn't leave till 1 a.m. It's neat to see the direction everyone took and to catch up! Kitty and I still wonder how in the world we made it thru school... she told me she thinks of me often with our crazy adventures in the hospital... I told her the feeling was mutual!
Meredith had a baby in the time we all saw each other last. His name is Shawn and he is an angel. Never cried once... even when I held him... which is quite shocking! And Stephanie is married now, more than a year already, so we got to catch up on all her wedding scrapbooks.
I do realize drinking wine and holding a baby is probably not the best idea, I vouch that I was just sitting and he was sleeping the entire time!
Nurses Rule!

Tug A War

Charlie and Lucas are becoming friends, challenging each other to many games of Tug a War here and there. It is quite funny and could be why Lucas has missing teeth all over the place!
Adam does all sports announcements for these challenges. Black Thunder vs. White Lightening
Who's going to take it all?
The winner by a long shot...... White Lightning....

I got GI'd!

The new job has been going well. I have done my 2 weeks of classroom orientation... 1 week in pre-op, 1 week in post-op, and today I started in the room side by side with another nurse, the doctor, the CRNA, and the endo tech. I have been itching to get back there since this is what is going to be hardest in the whole learning process.

Our second patient we were having a bit of trouble, her airway was terrible, the doctor couldn't visualize anything, and the patient was moving her arms around... so here I am trying to help keep her arms out of the doctors way when he looks me in the eye and tells me to quickly get the esophageal extender. I haven't the slightest clue what the hell an esophageal extender is, but with a smile I say, "no problem doc, where do I go?" He tells me go to the front desk and ask them, they will get it for me. And so like a frantic woman I go searching. 10 seconds go by before I just go and ask another nurse to help me find it...

I find one and ask her, she just busts out laughing. She asks me who told me to get it and I tell her the doctor, and she is in tears now. I realize at this point there is no such thing as an esophageal extender. I have been PUNKED. Or as they say in Endoscopy, "YOU HAVE BEEN GI'd!!!"

I sat down in complete defeat. I wasn't so much mad about the prank, but about the fact that I don't know what I am doing right now. She hugged me and told me that they do it to everyone, and she had been GI'd when she started. I pulled myself together and walked back into the room, knowing the way I would react to the situation I had just been put in would make me or break me in this new position. I announced, "VERRRRRRRYYYYYYY FUNNNYYYYY" when I walked back in, as everyone laughed and laughed. I looked at the doctor and said "I will remember that!" He told me since you have been GI'd it is done, it won't happen again. He went thru it, everyone else in the room went thru it, and if I didn't go thru it, it just wouldn't be the right initiation to the GI lab.

*GI stands for gastrointestinal

The World Shook

Our world shook this morning, literally. We experienced an earthquake at about 4 a.m. The bed shaking woke me up, the walls were rattling, and the dogs were growling. It was very strange. We weren't sure if it was a quake, an explosion of some sort, or one of the snow plows running directly into our building.

At this time, I haven't heard of any damage anywhere nor, anyone getting hurt. It just makes me think of the horrible conditions in Haiti at this time. For 15 seconds our world shook, I can only imagine theirs.

The Super Bowl

Superbowl Sunday was spent at Dave and Andrea's enjoying beer, the famous most delicious BACONATOR, as well as some fine beer!!!! They had about 25 people and all the food was excellent. I think I drank 4 Liters of water the next day due to all the salt intake! Thank God football is OVER, bring on the BaSeBaLL!!!
Congrats to the Saints!!!

Congrats Alyssa and Mike

January 30th, 2010 my friend Alyssa got married to her hubby Mike. It was a beautiful ceremony and beautiful reception. They had about the largest bridal party I have ever seen in my life. Everything was wonderful and Adam and I were glad to share in the special event! I wasn't able to snap a picture of the couple together, but I got a quick pic with the bride at cocktail hour!
Of course, I found someone to take a picture of Adam and I too!!!!
Congrats Newlyweds!
